Cocoa Mind

Un templo de felicidad.

Origins

Mente Cacao was born on wheels, literally. Eduardo Villers, its founder, began selling iced cacao water while skating through Mexico City. Touring places like Condesa, Coyoacán, and the Zócalo, he shared the taste of cacao with those he crossed paths with, unaware that he was sowing the seeds of a profound and soulful project.

From the beginning, Eduardo has felt a deep love for Mexico's history and its delicious cuisine. His connection with cacao, and later, agave, stems from this respect for our roots and the symbolic, spiritual, and cultural power they both represent in the great Mexican culture.

After years of selling on the street, Eduardo—along with his family—moved to San Miguel de Allende, where he opened his first store. Little by little, Mente Cacao grew to include five locations in San Miguel, as well as stores in Morelia and Guanajuato. These were years of sharing true chocolate, with passion and authenticity, until the pandemic hit. Faced with this challenge, the difficult decision was made to close all locations.

From that pause, a new phase was born. Eduardo and his family moved to Nuevo Vallarta, where they began a project filled with love and resilience. A fundamental part of this new phase has been spreading cacao culture through workshops in a beautiful garden created from scratch, filled with cacao plants, where we contribute our part to the appreciation of cacao and its practices.

Today, Mente Cacao is a Mexican brand that works hand in hand with experienced producers full of love for cacao, such as Hacienda Jesús María in Comalcalco, Tabasco, our key partners and suppliers. It also stems from our connection with mezcal, thanks to the apprenticeship and friendship with master mezcaleros from Oaxaca, who have taught us the nobility of the agave and the richness of their traditions.

We are in the process of reconnecting with the land, and we have decided to support the Mexican countryside by creating new cacao plantations in areas where it has been lost. Together with experienced agronomists, we are planning the creation of polyculture sites where cacao and the reintroduction of endemic plants will transform places and societies, sowing hope for a better tomorrow on this planet.

We are driven to showcase real chocolate and authentic mezcal, all made by expert Mexican hands, under fair trade, and maintaining the best practices. We will always elevate the origin, the essence, and the true men and women of cacao and mezcal, honoring their work, their history, and their art.
